White, Reblooming I Think!

Early morning rising today as I will attend the local Gardenaires Plant Sale. This group of local ladies sells propagated plants from their own gardens. The Gardenaires Garden Club was formed 55 years ago here in Winfield, Kansas. Proceeds from the sale are used to support many local charity projects including the library garden, a local park peace garden, main street beautification project, habitat for humanity and donations for the local food bank.
I purchase a re-blooming white Iris, I think? That's what the label said anyway. Also in the tray are three ground cover ginger plants. I was the only male in the group of buyers and sellers at a local residence on the outskirts of town. I was happy about the purchases as I was considering purchasing the ginger (Asarum canadese?)from a native plant company anyway.
I leave you with a early morning shot of Sambucus 'Black Lace'.

  1. Sounds like the proceeds goes to some good causes so it was a win win purchase. I love your Blace Lace Elderberry Gregg. I have a love for dark foliage in the garden. Have a lovely weekend.

  2. Sambucus is just beautiful! I love the tag 'Reblooming I think'! People are so honest! Congratulations on your new ginger plants! I have several of them, but they are not crazy about the place I chose for the, I think. There are no local plant sales for me today, but I have an urge to go to the nursery to buy Medow Rue plants. Maybe, you have some seeds? They grow well in the Midwest.
Have a great weekend, Greggo, and thank you so much for your thoughts withregard to my pampas grass. I think you are right!

    1. I wish I did have some of those seeds, but I don't. Tell me how well your grass does this year.

  3. Love that tag! Love those types of plant sales too. Sanbucus Black Lace is a beauty.

It would be unusual to have only one male in a gardening group here in San Antonio.

  6. Iris 'I Think' would look great next to any cultivars named 'Maybe', 'I Forgot' or 'Whatchamacallit'. :o)

  7. Fun! Either it's a white Iris, or a surprise Iris. You can't go wrong!

  8. Looks like old window blinds is a universal plant sale marker :-) I just potted up a bunch of plants for our local garden club plant sale and labeled them with old blind slats :-) You never know what you're going to get at garden club plant sales. Sometimes surprises await. Enjoy your new finds. I planted the ginger several years ago not realizing it was a ground cover (should have done better homework). I ended up digging it up and putting it in a container when it started to take over my shade garden!

  9. I just now noticed that about the blinds. hmm, ginger was that aggressive huh? I already have sea oats, maybe they can duke it out?...I think the ginger vines plants look cool too in the shade garden. Hey your bridge looks great.

  10. Ha! Our local "Town and Country Garden Club" had a similar sale yesterday! I bought two "Shasta Daisies", also of unknown variety, and I certainly can't claim they're natives, although quite a reliable perennial here.

Here's to hoping your "white reblooming iris" turns out to be 'Immortality'.

  11. I love your Sambucus and congrats on finding the ginger. I am adding more natives to my own garden, and ginger is one of them. I would have been tempted by the white iris, just because of the label!

  12. We love these kinds of sales too, and we also give away a lot of our own plants as well. We get the best natives from local gardens, and we are likewise pleased to share our own with visitors to our garden.

  13. I LOVE that plant tag! Congrats on finding the ginger. For some reason, I can't keep the a. canadense in my garden... only the European ginger hangs on here. :-/ Ah well...

  14. If your white reblooming iris doesnt' work out, let me know, I have one that reblooms like crazy and spreads like wildfire. Be happy to send you a couple. (cold hardiness unknown).

I adore that Sambucus, but it struggles here. I must enjoy yours instead.
