I'm curious if we see any eggs in the future on the swampweed. I'll keep everyone posted.

Early Monarch Visit
I've been following the presence of a lonely monarch butterfly the last few days. The butterfly seems to be moving from flower to flower trying to find its place in the garden. Even though its preference plants are not available the butterfly has chosen to go to whats available, mainly Dianthus.

Great pics! I've been looking for a monarch here - I think they usually show up in late summer. I'll be interested in seeing its eggs if you find them.
ReplyDeleteYeah, that one is pretty early. Looks like a beaten up specimen too; maybe just the first wave of last year's monarchs from the south?
ReplyDeleteA sure sign of Spring in Alabama when the butterflies arrive! I know you are glad to see him arrive....
ReplyDeleteYour photos are simply fabulous.Such clarity and depth of color. That dianthus is one of my favorite colors. I am also amazed at the earliness of the blue flax. I have it here and did see one bloom the other day but it usually blooms much later here. ALl your spring blooms are lovely.
ReplyDeleteWhat a welcome sight! I am so excited for the season to progress.
ReplyDeleteBy looking closer I've discerned that this is a male, so no eggs yet.
