Bloom Day June 2013

After a cool spring with normal rainfall coming at needed times, this June has been spectacular for the health of the garden. I'm sure this week of extended temperatures and warm harvest winds will take a toll on the the looks of the garden. But lets be positive shan't we. Wow, loved this spring.
As always Carol with May Dream Gardens is hosting this monthly bloom day meme.
Broad view of hell strip along street. Achillea 'Coronation Gold', Salvia farinacea, Echinacea purpurea, Delphinium carolinianum, Veronia altissima, and Nepeta 'Walkers Low'.

Corner Hell Stip with Nasella tenuisima, Ascelpias tuberosa, Festuca, Echinacea pupurea, Calamagrostis 'Karl Foerster', Alchillea m.'Terra Cotta', and Gallardia.

And of course one of my favorites every year Verbascum thapsus, common Mullien.

  1. Very, very nice pictures. Looks like my garden up north in Wichita - same plants, and also looking very good this spring. But where is the bindweed that I fight daily?

  2. Looking terrific, Greggo! Yes, we also had a cool Spring but now the heat is on the 'oven' setting. Still, we garden, don't we?

  3. Lovely lovely. My coneflowers are not even vaguely thinking of blooming yet. But Greggo I think that gorgeous border needs a more generous name than 'hell strip.'

  4. I see some of my favorites in your garden. I love achillea and coneflowers. The hell strip looks so pretty with the grasses to add texture. Lovely.

  6. That hell strip planting is great! I can't believe how creative people are getting with hell strips! Around here, either people can't or don't plant their hell strips (I don't know because I don't have one). Happy GBBD!

  7. Looking very good! I need some plants like these in my alley. I never water out there so they have to be hardy. Right now, it is mostly self seeding annuals but I'm slowly dividing perennials and moving them out there. Your choices here look great! Magazine photo even.

    1. Not exactly know how to locate your blog with all these changes to clicking on your name link. Will find you off the blog roll. Thanks for the positive comments, it has been a pleasure being in the garden this year.

  8. Very pretty - everything is growing beautifully!
I am worried about our Mulliens - we've had them for 30 years or more, but they have not appeared this year. I may have to buy some, if I can find them, to get them started again.
    Happy GBBD!

  10. I do like how you've used gold coloured Achillea around your borders. It's a great way of introducing some yellow. I'm glad I visited - I've gone away inspired.
You have a lovely garden Greggo!

  11. That area deserves a complimentary name like 'Avenue Garden' or at least 'Park Way'

  12. Looking very good, your Echinacea is miles ahead of mine, I don't even have any buds yet. We have also had a cools spring here in Britain, the coldest in 50 years, everything is so late. But we’re getting there eventually, if we could just get a bit warmer weather :-)

  13. Common mullein as an ornamental. With its grey leaves and yellow flowers - why not?

  14. That has to be one of the prettiest hell-strips I've ever seen!

  15. Your hell strip looks, yes, heavenly. Great work. Do you constantly hear brakes screeching as people stop to gawk? It just gets better and better.

  18. I sure hope your neighbors appreciate what you have done with your hell strip. I planted my first Verbascum this spring and have been enjoying its blooms for nearly a month.

    1. Which Verbascum? I have to cut these blooms off or I'll have a Verbascum nursery.

  20. Your garden beds look great. The hell strip, especially. I don't think I could do that in my neighborhood. There would be a lynching mob out. I am always amazed how some neighborhoods all do their hell strips, like in Buffalo, but none in Niagara Falls. People like their grass in this City.
