Around the Watering Hole

I'm having a hard time getting these images posted on Blogger, not sure why. I've been trying to capture these birds on my camera all spring and winter. The populations of migrating songbirds have been plentiful. I've been going through about 20 pounds of black sunflower seed a week, and the Hackberry tree has been full of these Cedar Waxwings which are gorging on the berries and then flying to the water tank.  Our newly painted metal lawn chairs which are baby blue are now striped with purple stains from above.

Let's Rock!

  1. Great photos. I always think of Waxwings, as a sign that Spring has arrived. I could be wrong. They came through here weeks ago, and we've still been having cold mornings.

Maybe since they've made it all the way north to you, Spring is here. Of course, summer is right behind.

    Have a great weekend.

  2. I thought you were swallowed up by your last snows, or a horde of angry Sooners converted your plants back to lawn! Welcome to spring.

  5. Incredible shots! The Cornell site seems to say the Cedar Waxwings are in the Midwest year-round. But I've only seen them in mid-spring--nibbling on the blossoms of Apple and Crabapple trees. I can't wait. Enjoy!

    1. I agree they are special. You wouldn't believe the mess they left however. Had to scrub.

  10. Hey Greggo,

Long time... We're on the very edge of the Waxwing territory up in KC but had one show up last year and had to describe it to my wild bird store for an ID. They said I was very lucky.

  12. Wow nice camera work Greggo, just beautiful! Some birds I have never seen ever. I'm sorry about the striped chairs but if you put images online you might start a whole new trend in lawn furniture finishes.
