Pass it On

Spring break has always been a special time for our extended family. Cindy my wonderful wife has been an educator most of our married life so we have had many spring breaks to enjoy. This year was even more meaningful as our granddaughter from Corpus Christi, Texas visited us at home. She is a first grader and flew by herself (chaperoned of course) to Dallas where she was picked up by my son and grandma. Days later she arrived and her gardening indoctrination soon began.
Potatoe planting was in order as the moon phase was perfect along with the 80 degree weather. Of course we had to do a few hula hoops to stay interested. New daughter in law to the right of me.

Onions were next. Yuch for a while.

That wasn't so bad was it. Like the boots Skylar.
Ok, it's time for radishes and lettuce.
Okie dokie, grandpa.....but I don't want to get my red boots muddy!

  2. Making a garden but mostly making a great memory for that little gardener. Love the overalls, and the images of the two of you deserve framing!

  3. Adorable!! I'm so happy you have her for a bit. :o) I appreciated your comments about grass. It's not quite the pariah people make it out to be.

  9. I hope she loved it. I know she'll remember gardening with you for the rest of her life. I hope she gets to come back this summer and eat the things she planted!

  10. LOL! She is so cute. I love it that she was into the gardening just so long as her boots did not get dirty. Teach them young to garden. She is a brave girl to travel by herself. Enjoy your visit with her.

  11. My daughter helped plant with her dad. I think I need to get him some overalls like yours - perfect attire for vegetable gardening!

  12. It's wonderful to see young gardeners learning the ropes. Major kudos to you! And of course the part about it being 80 degrees made me rub my eyes and make sure I was reading that correctly.

    1. Yes it was great last week. Had a change this week with about 3" inches of slow rain and cool temps. I imagine that would be normal for Washington state not Kansas. A foot of snow is hard to believe there. Hope it doesn't flatten everything.

  17. Some of my favorite early memories are of my grandpa's garden--it's great to see that grandpas and gardens and grandchildren are still a match made in heaven. But why is she the only one with a hula hoop?
