  1. Your photos are breathtaking. I like the repeating pattern of the trees. Congrats to you and your son. The last photo made me tear up a little.

  2. Thank you so much for another beautiful and unique interpretation. Removing color is a great way to see the essence of an image, so clean and unencumbered, a rest for the eye. The lighting also gives the sense of peace and repose. Beautiful post.

  3. Absolutely gorgeous! Congrats to your son. I really enjoyed looking at the black and white photos. I noticed different things (like shadows) that I wouldn't have if color would have been present.

  4. Love the tones of gray in your images, they do whisper repose to the viewer. And of course, my favorite is the monarch,a male, possibly Quinta?

  5. Greggo, once again I am reminded of the stark beauty of black and white. Your photos are absolutely breathtaking. And a monarch has never been more beautiful!

  6. Beautiful photographs Greggo. I love the light and shadow in black and white photographs. Both lilies are stunning, and not always easy to photograph without overexposing them.

  7. Beautiful photos. The third photo...massive tree so rooted in time and vineyard providing counterpoint...settles my soul.

  8. Wow, you put Repose to a different level, and putting them in monochrome is really fantastic.

  9. Looks like it was a beautiful occasion. My sone, who is a designer, is always encouraging me to use sepia or black and white. I can see from these photos that he is right. There is nothing to distract from the subject.

  10. I love B&W photography! The eye is not distracted by the color and it really plays up the lighting and structure of the subjects! Fabulous interpretation of repose!

  13. OK you are getting good. And I vote for the first image as far as the repose theme goes. But I vote for the wedding image as far as the we-adore-our-kids-how-do-they-grow-up-so-fast theme goes, and yes it makes me cry.

  14. Girl Sprout- yes, I teared up also when I was there.
Dona- It's funny how we get inspiration. I was working on setting up my screen saver with images. The first images that came up were all in black and white. Eureka I thought. I wasn't even going to post a "Repose" post. But those photos in black and white were perfect and inspired me to proceed. thank you for your comments and concept of the weekly word of the week.

  15. Holly-that just shows how strong color can influence what we see and how we feel.
    Shawn-thank you.
    Carolyn- Quinta said hello.
Cathy and Steve- I guess we could call the monarch a zebra variety. lol

  17. Truly beautiful photos!! The last one is the best. My husband and I married young (20 and 24) and statistically speaking, we should be divorced now. 22 years strong! Great post!! :o)

  18. Greggo,
I love b&w photos for many reasons and yours are tops! Congrats to your son....I know exactly where Christoval Texas is...I've been to the wind farm there. and I've been to San Angelo Lily Gardens as well. What a small world.

  20. This was such a lovely post on repose. Using BW was a terrific idea. I think it actually adds to the idea of repose by relaxing the eye and the mind as you view the photos. I enjoyed this very much.

  21. CVF- Your right they are hard to keep from overexposing
    Garden Sense-good observation--counterpoint.
Jenny-your son is right, it changes the mood doesn't it.
    One-your right.
Karin-thank you that is a true compliment.
Cher-yes I stumbled upon the first photo.

  22. Linnie-you are too kind to this old flat-lander.
Carolyn-I had to brighten the photos as these areas were in deep shade from the live oak.
Tammy-congrates on 22 years. I don't remember being young. I guess it's being young at heart.
David-cool, it was smokin dry there and the monarchs were in full migration.
Shirley-thanks for visiting, I'm sure you are thankful for the rain in San Antonio.
